That trade accounted for alot of it. And their draft picks in the mid 90's. But to keep a good team you have to pay them. With the stars the Bears have on D, my prediction is almost all are gone in the next 2 years. Chi won't pay em for their performance when the time comes to renegotiate.

Re: Thomas Jones

He wasnt being paid 800,000 per year. He was being paid 3.3 million. The Bears pay 800,000 as part of the signing bonus, the Jets will pay the 2.whatever million left for this years contract.

TJ has cars that cost [censored] near 800,000, he wasnt starving.

His deal wasnt redone because Benson got a 41 million dollar contract with a 17 million dollar signing bonus. Now that very well may not work out but at the same time, thats what the #4 overall pick in a draft was worth. Braylon Edwards made a little more. Cadillac Williams made a little less in that draft at #3 and #5, the draft is slotted for salary.

Edge rushed for 1159 yards in AZ this past year btw Im not comparing the two, Im just saying it has been done even though you said it didnt. Between Ottis and Edge, it just takes Hurricane greatness to get 1000 yards in Arizona.

Re: Thomas Jones

They will likely pay Tillman and Harris because they are the #1 players on their respective parts of their units. They probably will cut/trade Ogunleye because Mark Anderson is a star and deserves to play. Mike Brown wont get another contract, its too risky because hes always hurt. Vasher may or may not be there, it really just depends. Hes a #2 corner, they already have Tillman and Ricky Manning Jr and Vasher may ask for alot.

Harris, Urlacher, and Tillman are the guys they will keep because they are truely the guys that make the defense work. They probably wont keep the other guys, but how can you blame them. At some point they gotta look to improve the offense a little more. The way Angelo drafts though, he usually has replacements ready for guys that arent worth paying.

How many times do you see a guy leave one team for another and underperforms for the next team. I guarantee you Lance Briggs wont be nearly as good without Urlacher beside of him.

I wasnt just talking about that 1 trade either. I was talking about drafting Stan Thomas, Jon Alred, Cade McNown, Alonzo Spellman, Carl Simpson, Patrick Riley, the list goes on and on.

Since Angelo came aboard, I can only say hes made 1 or 2 bad picks. Michael Haynes was a bust, but he was drafted for Dick Juron's defensive schemes not a fast cover 2 which Lovie plays and Roosevelt Williams didnt workout very well either. Heck, Marc Columbo turned into a decent player in Dallas after a "career ending" injury after the Bears drafted him. Too many good picks to outweigh the bad ones though. For the first time in decades, they have quite a bit of depth at most every position.

The biggest worry to me going into next season is the age of the offensive line. TJ may be getting out at just the right time. Mangold and Ferguson are going to be blocking for him or anyone else for 10 years in NY.

The Bears right now are in the same boat they were in around 87-88. Their stars are coming up on the end of contracts, and they have no offense. Urlacher, Harris..all of em are gonna start looking quite ordinary when this team starts to be dismantled. Kinda like Singletary and Dent went through after Marshall, Wilson, Fensick and company departed.

Thomas Jones would have been a ballplayer if he went to Appalachia. Only problem is he was a girl and went to Powell Valley, and now thinks he is better than all of us. He just got above his raising.

Re: Thomas Jones

The parallels are similar but its a totally different ballgame with the cap. Teams dont stay bad for long periods of time. Look to New Orleans, the Carolina team that went to the superbowl, the Bears, whoever. It takes a couple decent drafts, maybe a decent qb, and a couple FA signings.

Biggest difference between that 87 era team and this team is that team had alot of aging players. You are on point as far as the offense goes, I cant argue there. Everyone says Urlacher may look mortal, but the same was said when Warrick Holdman and Rosie Colvin left and a young guy named Briggs started as a rookie.

Again, the main difference is who is drafting the players. Angelo and Smith have an outstanding relationship, Ditka and McCaskey had the worst relationship.

I believe Fencik and Wilson retired. Marshall was the only one that was lost. It was a big loss but if you look at the 86 Bears without Marshall, they were better than the 85 team. All teams get old eventually, the Bears got old and they had McCaskey putting the replacements out there, not Angelo.

Dikta always struggled with personnel too, I mean come on, hes the only person to ever trade his whole draft for 1 player.

Possibly the most idiotic comment I've seen on this forum.

Its pretty stupid but its not much different than insulting Flanary over in the school consolidation post....kind of doing the same thing.
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.
